Hua
Yuan to Initiate Fund Raising to Fight SARS Contributes to the Control
and Prevention of SARS in China Palo Alto, Calif. - April 30,
2003 - Hua Yuan Science and Technology
Association, a prominent Silicon Valley-based Chinese American non-profit
business organization announced today that it would start a program
to raise funds to help China fight SARS (severe acute respiratory
syndrome), a new worldwide infectious disease. China so far has the most SARS cases
and fatalities. The threat and impact posed by SARS is unprecedented.
People's normal life has been seriously disrupted. Tourism has nearly
disappeared. Businesses have also suffered. China-U.S. business, technological
and cultural exchanges have almost stopped. "Facing these challenges, Hua Yuan,
with close ties with China, believes that we should do something to
help China tackle SARS," said Dr. Hong Chen, president of Hua
Yuan. "Hua Yuan is raising a fund to help fight SARS in China.
We encourage individuals, corporations, and other non-profit organizations
to join us in this effort." Hua Yuan SARS Fund will be used to help
the Chinese remote, rural areas deal with SARS, and to enhance scientific
research and cooperation to find a cure of SARS. Part of proceeds
will be used to immediately purchase medical materials to be sent
to China, and the rest will be delivered to related Chinese government
agencies and medical institutions for the control and prevention of
SARS as well as for SARS research. Contributions should be sent to SARS
Fund, Hua Yuan Science and Technology Association, P.O. Box 60753,Palo
Alto, CA 94306. Wire transactions are accepted. More details are
